MANY, MANY THANKS TO ALL, FOR YOUR SUPPORT! THE EVENT WAS TREMENDOUS SUCCESS AND COULDN'T HAVE BEEN DONE WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT AND DEDICATED PASSION FOR THE PSSC!
The PSSC's Annual Banquet was held on January 20, 2018, at Sherman Gardens in Corona del Mar, along the California Riviera in Orange County.
The Guest Speaker: Jeff Marcus - Floribunda Palms and Exotics
Theme: BACKYARD CONSERVATION: "EVERY GARDEN COUNTS!"
Jeff discussed the vital role that all PSSC members hold in their power, ensuring the survival of the rare palms we love so much. Rare palms are becoming rarer in habitat; political instability, destruction of native landscapes for monocultural plantations, regardless of well-intentioned actions by governments and others by restricting commerce in palms is causing the world's palm flora to shrink.
Jeff shared an exceptional presentation filled with photographs, of rare palms from various places he has traveled to. One topic Mr. Marcus shared with the audience was how we, as PSSC members, can make a difference. One item he discussed with the audience was his plans of gathering seeds from various palms that are on the brink of extinction. And begin the germination process, something of a Noah's ark for palms. Giving the various species a chance of survival, and cultivate as much as possible, to create new growth of these rare trees and keeping them alive a lot longer. Reducing face of extinction in habitat. Jeff had many people send him seed from rare palms which they harvested in Southern California as well as various other places across the globe, which he was able to grow.
One thing is for certain, regardless of how big or small of a garden you have created. It's the importance of learning to conserve and protect our planet. And to be able to share with everyone who shares the same mind set. Ensuring that our youth is able carry on the importance of every species of living organism, Before it is too late.
